AI is everywhere right now—and depending on who you ask, it’s either going to change your life or take your job. The truth is a lot more useful (and a lot less dramatic).

This workshop is a clear, grounded introduction to what AI actually is, how it works in everyday terms, and how you can start using it right away to make things easier, faster, and a little more creative.

We’ll walk through real examples of how tools like ChatGPT can help with writing, brainstorming, organizing ideas, and getting unstuck—whether you're working, running a business, or just trying to keep up with how fast things are changing.

No tech background needed. No confusing language. No pressure to “get it right.”

Just a thoughtful, practical session designed to help you understand what’s useful, what’s not, and how to start using AI in a way that actually works for you.

WAYS TO WORK TOGETHER

INTRODUCTION TO AI

                                                                                     MY APPROACH

Clear. Collaborative. No drama.

I don't believe in overcomplicating communication. Or turning everything into a framework with 5 layers and a name.

Most of the time, what's needed is simpler:

  • clarity

  • good judgment

  • and someone who can actually say the thing in a way that feels right.

I work closely with teams, leadership and stakeholders to understand what's really going on.  I listen, ask questions and simplify quickly.

And yes, I'll tell you if something isn't working, in a way that moves things forward, not sideways.

MY APPROACH

My approach is grounded in curiosity, clarity, and the ability to connect the dots — between people, ideas, strategy, emotion, and what’s often left unsaid. My background in photography and storytelling shapes the way I work. I notice patterns. I pay attention. I ask good questions. I can usually sense what’s really important long before it’s written on the whiteboard or buried in slide 47.

People tend to hire me because I bring calm, perspective, creativity, and emotional intelligence into complex environments. I simplify what feels messy, make communication feel more human, and help ideas resonate in a way that feels thoughtful and real. I care deeply about authenticity, meaningful work, and working with good people.

I also think humor, kindness, and curiosity matter far more than most corporate language gives them credit for.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What types of clients do you typically work with?

I work with a mix of organizations—healthcare, tech, and mission-driven teams—as well as small business owners who want stronger, clearer messaging.

Do you only work on large, strategic projects?

No. Not at all.

Sometimes the most valuable work is refining a single message or helping something feel clearer and more aligned. I’m happy to support both focused needs and larger initiatives.

What does working with you actually look like?

Collaborative, straightforward, and focused.

I ask questions, listen carefully, and simplify quickly. You’ll get clear thinking, clean drafts, and communication that feels usable—not overworked or overcomplicated.

How do you typically get started?

Usually with a conversation. We talk through what’s going on, what feels unclear or stuck, and what you need. From there, I can recommend a simple approach and start shaping the work quickly.

Do you use AI in your work?

Yes, thoughtfully. AI can be Incredibly useful for speed and early drafts. It's a starting point - never a final draft. Every piece of communication is shaped, refined, and rewritten to always ensure that it sounds natural, aligned and human.

What is your view in using AI in a communications role?

AI is a tool, not a device. It can support effectively but it can't ever replace judgement, tone or emotional intelligence. The risk isn't using AI - it's using it without refinement and judgement.  The goal is to use AI where it helps, and apply human insight where it matters.

Can you help us sound less 'robotic"?

Yes - and this is one of the most common challenges right now primarily due to AI.

Do you offer ghostwriting?

Yes. I help leaders, founders, and professionals turn rough ideas, voice notes, conversations, or scattered drafts into polished writing that still sounds like them. That can include LinkedIn posts, articles, thought leadership, blogs, website copy, executive messaging, talking points, and behind-the-scenes content support.

What type of AI training do you deliver?

I use a hands-on approach, using tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity in daily work to refine prompting, test outputs and build practical workflows. I stay current through targeted online learning programs. My focus is on applying AI in real-world scenarios to improve clarity, efficiency and results.

What makes your communications approach different?

I bring strategy, writing, and human understanding together.

I don’t just create plans—I help shape communication that people can actually understand and use. My background also includes executive support and project management, so I understand both the message and the moment it needs to work in.

In addition to strategic work,  do you also undertake the tactical portion of the projects?  Our last few consultants would only focus on the strategic - and we definitely need both!

I do both, strategic and tactical. I'm happy to interface across and within your organization to consistency deliver you the results you are expecting.

There are times when we have last minute projects - do you take those on too?

I do take on last-minute projects, depending on the situation and scope. Please note that pricing may be a bit higher for urgent requests.

Are you available to come into our offices and offsites?
Yes - absolutely.  In person is always my preference. I can connect more naturally with the team, stay aligned with the priorities, read the room and be in sync with what's needed day to day.  I'm also available virtually.

What’s the difference between copywriting and ghostwriting?
Copywriting focuses on writing for a business or brand—things like website copy, messaging, and content designed to clearly communicate what you do and why it matters.

Ghostwriting is more personal. It’s writing on behalf of an individual, shaping their ideas, voice, and perspective into something clear and compelling—whether that’s a LinkedIn post, article, or thought leadership piece.

In practice, I often do both. The difference comes down to the voice: copywriting sounds like a brand, while ghostwriting sounds like you.

We often have product launches where the team and leadership are never in sync as far as communications. Multiple people write content and it's wildly inconsistent.  Help.

This is another place where I step in to align communications with the key messages, stakeholders and project teams. There is complete inconsistency, timing across teams, and too much confusion. This is where I come in.

ABOUT SUSAN

me.jpeg

I work as a senior communications partner and ghostwriter, which means I get into the weeds with leaders and teams to find the real message — then make sure it actually lands. I don't hand off a strategy and disappear. I stay close.

Two things shape how I work that you won't find on most bios: I'm a close-to published author and a professional photographer. Writing taught me to find the story underneath the noise. Photography taught me to find the one thing that says everything else. Both make me very good at editing out what doesn't matter.

Why Red Mango?

I was in Hawaii watching a storm roll in when I noticed a mango tree absolutely loaded with fruit.
Wind, rain, chaos — and not a single mango moved. I thought: that's the goal. Calm under pressure.
Clear through the noise.

It stuck.

After 15 years in communications and an entrepreneur— across tech, financial services, and nonprofits — I've learned one thing: most communication doesn't fail from lack of effort. It fails from lack of clarity.

That's the problem I solve.
